2008 Rides / Event Schedule:

We have received literature for the following state H.O.G. rallies.  Copies can be obtained at any of the chapter meetings.

  • Virginia – June 19th to 21st, Fredericksburg, VA
  • New York, July 10 – 12, 2008
  • Ohio –June 26th to 28th, Akron, OH

    • National H.O.G. has taken a "Zero Tolerance" stance against alcohol at any chapter sponsored events.  This has become a very serious issue over the past few years and could jeopardize our insurance coverage if something were to happen at a chapter event with alcohol.  The directors briefly discussed this at their last meeting and will make a final decision at the May meetings.

We are still looking for more rides and events to add to the 2008 calendar.  Please bring any and all suggestions to one of the meetings so they can get added to the schedule.  Unless otherwise noted, all rides and events will leave from DuBois Harley-Davidson.  The times shown below are when the first tire hits the white line.  Show up about 10 – 15 minutes before the departure time and be ready to go.

  • April 27th – We will hold our annual spring clean up at exit 97 of I-80.  Breakfast at the Dutch Pantry starts at 9:00 AM with trash pick up to follow.  If the weather cooperates, we will also try to get in a little ride.
  • May 3rd (Departure time 11:00 AM at Phillipsburg Sheetz) – "Run for the Son" free motorcycle ride is being sponsored by the Shekinah Glory Riders and the Christian Motorcycle Association.  If you are interested in taking part, please contact Hector Martinez @ 814-236-3044.
  • Starting Mid May (Departure time 5:30 PM) – Every Wednesday evening we will have a ride to one of the area bike nights.  It will be riders' choice as to which bike night event they attend.  If you can make it show up and go along for the ride and good food.
  • Starting May 10th (Departure time 1:00 PM) – On the second Saturday of every month we will have a ride that leaves the Harley Shop with destinations unknown.  It will be up to the riders that show up where they want to go and which route to take.
  • June 1st (Departure time 10:00 AM) – Breakfast / brunch ride to the Monroe Hotel in Butler, PA.  Pete Petrosky Road Captain.
  • June 21st – Our summer party (pig roast) will once again be held at Rodney Walters home.  The chapter will provide the main course and liquid refreshments, all attendees are asked to bring a covered dish to be shared with all.
  • June 28th (Departure time 8:00 AM) – Ride to Thunder in the Valley in Johnstown, PA.  Tom Haag Road Captain.
  • July 13th – Dice Run for MDA: Plans for the 2008 dice run are well under way.  We are still looking for volunteers to help with the various activities through out the day.  If you are available, please sign up at the next chapter meeting.  The more help we get the better this will be for all involved.  We will once again raffle off a motorcycle and trailer as the main prizes. The trailer is at the shop and raffle tickets can be picked up at the Parts Counter.
    • 1st prize – 2008 Harley–Davidson Nightster motorcycle
    • 2nd prize – Custom built Car*Mate 6' X 12' trailer
    • 3rd prize - $250.00 cash

  •  July 20th (Departure time 9:00 AM) – Lunch ride to Cracker Barrel in Altoona, PA.  Andy Schaffer Road Captain.
  • July 26th (Departure time 7:00 AM) – Ride to the Carlisle bike show.  Tom Haag Road Captain

March - 2008 Meeting Minutes:

Membership:

  • The Membership Appreciation Night that was held on Tuesday, March 11, appeared to be a very successful event.  Estimates are that around 100 chapter members took advantage of the 20% off sale on motorclothes and other accessories.  A special thanks to the DuBois Harley-Davidson staff for pulling all of this together.
  • We currently have 189 chapter members including three (3) new members, which joined during the April meeting.  The new members are:  Connie Carlson, Sheldon Phillips and Tom Mowrey.  Welcome to the club and we are looking forward to a great riding season with all members.
  • If your membership is expired, you can renew at the meetings or see anyone at the DuBois Harley-Davidson parts counter.
  • As a reminder, you MUST be a national member of H.O.G. to belong to the local H.O.G.

Treasury:

  • Treasury reports are available at the meetings or by contacting Carol Mortland directly.

Safety:

  • Bernie gave a great presentation on group ride responsibilities.  Below are just a few highlights but we also encourage you to stop by the shop and get a copy of the hand out, it has a lot of great information.

#1 – The top priority is safety for you, your passenger (if applicable) and all other group members.
#2 – Show up for all group rides with a full tank of gas.
#3 – The Road Captain for the ride should conduct a pre-ride meeting with operators.  The meeting should cover items such as:

      • Rider positions in line
      • Rules covering formation and spacing for both in town and open road
      • Hand signals

#4 – Always ride in a stagger (never side by side) and maintain a safe distance of Two (2) seconds between motorcycles.
#5 – Do NOT block intersections allowing others in the group to continue moving at traffic lights, stop signs, etc.
#6 – Be courteous, use common sense, follow the rules of safe motorcycling and enjoy the ride.

Mileage Program:

  • 2007 Mileage awards were presented at the winter party on March 22nd.  Winners are as follows:
  Men     Women
1st  John Schaberl 23321   Cindy Schuster 15379
2nd Dave Bobenrieth 21000   Denny Henery 7656
3rd Bob Kostok 17664   Mona Park 6281

Michelle Mowrey won the party's 50/50 - $125.00.

Web Site:

  • At the request of National H.O.G., we are looking at ways of making our site more secure.  One option is to have the newsletter portion of the web site password protected so only active members have access to it.  Jon Noonan will work with Vince to see what options are available and will give us an update at next month's meeting.
  • All rides and other events will still be accessible to non-members.

Chapter Merchandise:

  • There is a lot of chapter merchandise available for purchase.  If you are interested, please stop by and see Cindy Coudriet at one of the meetings.

The 50/50 ($95.50) was won by Earl Lees.  The $50 DuBois H-D Gift Certificate was won by Allen Cartwright.
